Chief Technology Officer for the Federal Trade Commission announced this morning at Internet Week New York that Twitter has agreed to allow users to opt for a Do Not Track options when browsing on Mozilla Firefox.

At an Internet Week New York panel this morning titled “Opting in to Do Not Track: A morning mini-conference on privacy, tracking and more,” chief technology officer for the Federal Trade Commission Ed Felton announced that Twitter will be officially implementing a “Do Not Track” feature to allow users to block the social media site from collecting private data for advertising purposes.

In a collaboration with Mozilla, Twitter users can opt out of being tracked via their activities on the site when they access Twitter through a Firefox browser. As the law currently stands, websites had to agree with the browser before allowing users to make their own choices about whether or not they would like sites to track their information. Naturally, Twitter confirmed this via a tweet, congratulating the FTC on its “leadership on [Do Not Track],” and finally putting the power back in the users’ hands. Mozilla is one of the many Web browsers that support Do Not Track, along with its popular competitors Google Chrome and Internet Explorer 9. The function will also work for Firefox on Android.

While the support of Do Not Track from Twitter might make you want to push Facebook to do the same, we would advise you not to hold your breath. It’s no secret that Facebook monetizes largely in part of tracking user data and selling the information for advertising and marketing, so allowing users to opt out of the privacy setting can cause some detriments to its relationship with brands. Still, a first step from a major social media outlet is a good start, and hopefully we may see a trend following Twitter’s commitment to a more private online experience.

To learn more about the Do Not Track feature on Mozilla Firefox, visit the F.A.Q. to get your questions answered.

Many times you might want to change the product key of Office suite installed in your system. It might be because your product key expired and you got a new one or it might be because you installed Office using pirated key and now you want to change the product key with a genuine one.

To change the product key you’ll have to uninstall the Office suite from your system and then reinstall it.

But here is a small and simple tutorial which will help you in changing the product key without uninstalling the Office.

Change Office XP Product Key:

1. Type regedit in RUN dialog box and press Enter. Now go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Registration

2. Under “Registration” key, you’ll see one or more GUID (Globally Unique IDentifiers) containing a combination of alphanumeric characters in following format:

{xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}

3. Select each key and look at “ProductName” key in right-side pane. One GUID key will contain the version number of Office installed in your system “Microsoft Office XP Professional Edition”.

4. Select that GUID key and delete following 2 registry entries from right-side pane:

DigitalProductID
ProductID

5. Close registry editor and run any Office application e.g. word, excel, etc. It should prompt you to enter a new product key.

6. Enter the desired product key and click on OK. That’s it.

Change Office 2003 Product Key:

1. Type regedit in RUN dialog box and press Enter. Now go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Registration

2. Under “Registration” key, you’ll see one or more GUID (Globally Unique IDentifiers) containing a combination of alphanumeric characters in following format:

{xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}

3. Select each key and look at “ProductName” key in right-side pane. One GUID key will contain the version number of Office installed in your system e.g. “Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003″.

4. Select that GUID key and delete following 2 registry entries from right-side pane:

DigitalProductID
ProductID

5. Close registry editor and run any Office application e.g. word, excel, etc. It should prompt you to enter a new product key.

6. Enter the desired product key and click on OK. That’s it.

Change Office 2007 Product Key:

1. Type regedit in RUN dialog box and press Enter. Now go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration

2. Under “Registration” key, you’ll see one or more GUID (Globally Unique IDentifiers) containing a combination of alphanumeric characters in following format:

{xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}

3. Select each key and look at “ProductName” key in right-side pane. One GUID key will contain the version number of Office installed in your system “Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2007″.

4. Select that GUID key and delete following 2 registry entries from right-side pane:

DigitalProductID
ProductID

5. Close registry editor and run any Office application e.g. word, excel, etc. It should prompt you to enter a new product key.

6. Enter the desired product key and click on OK. That’s it.

Change Office 2010 Product Key:

1. Type regedit in RUN dialog box and press Enter. Now go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Registration

2. Under “Registration” key, you’ll see one or more GUID (Globally Unique IDentifiers) containing a combination of alphanumeric characters in following format:

{xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}

3. Select each key and look at “ProductName” key in right-side pane. One GUID key will contain the version number of Office installed in your system “Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2010″.

4. Select that GUID key and delete following 2 registry entries from right-side pane:

DigitalProductID
ProductID

5. Close registry editor and run any Office application e.g. word, excel, etc. It should prompt you to enter a new product key.

6. Enter the desired product key and click on OK. That’s it.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

A. Take a backup of “Registration” key before deleting the registry entries from right-side pane, so that in case the new product key doesnt work you can restore the previous key without any problem. To take backup right-click on “Registration” key and select “Export”.

B. If you are a x64 bit Windows user, then the key location will be different in registry. Please check following paths:

Office XP:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\10.0
Office 2003:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\11.0

Facebook Inc. (FB) raised $16 billion in the biggest initial public offering by a technology company in history, pricing the shares at the top end of an increased range.

The social network sold 421.2 million shares at $38 each, a statement today shows. That values Facebook at $104.2 billion, making it the largest company to go public in the U.S. by market capitalization, according to data compiled by Bloomberg and Dealogic. Facebook, led by 28-year-old Mark Zuckerberg, this week expanded the IPO to meet demand, allowing investors Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Accel Partners to reap more gains.

“My feeling is they could have gone higher, but they wanted to leave some room for upside tomorrow,” said Arvind Bhatia, an analyst with Sterne, Agee & Leach Inc. in Dallas. “The demand was obviously quite strong so I think it’s the right move.”

The offering marks the culmination of Facebook’s evolution in less than a decade from a Harvard University dorm-room project into a social network with more than 900 million users. While Zuckerberg persuaded investors to buy the shares at a higher price-to-earnings multiple than almost every company in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index, he now faces stemming slowing sales growth after profit fell 12 percent last quarter.

“It seems like a very full valuation but I’m sure there was an almost insatiable amount of retail interest in Facebook and that’s how the bankers looked at it,” said Dan Veru, chief investment officer at Palisade Capital Management in Fort Lee, New Jersey. “Everyone wants a piece of Facebook.”

Waiting for Earnings

The stock is scheduled to start trading tomorrow on the Nasdaq Stock Market under the symbol FB.

At $16 billion, Facebook’s debut surpasses that of General Motors Co., making it the second-largest in U.S. history, excluding so-called over-allotments, which let underwriters buy more shares at a later date, data compiled by Bloomberg show.

GM raised $15.8 billion in November 2010, before expanding the sale to $18.1 billion when underwriters exercised the over- allotment option. Visa Inc. raised $17.9 billion in its 2008 IPO, the biggest in the U.S., and later expanded the sale to $19.7 billion.

Sales Metrics

The price gives Facebook a market value about half the size of Google Inc. (GOOG), which is worth more than $200 billion. The search-engine operator’s value has jumped almost ninefold in the eight years since it went public. To hand its public owners the same returns after pricing at the top of its offering range, Facebook would have to be worth about $920 billion by 2020.

The price values Facebook at 26 times sales in the 12 months through March 31 and about 107 times earnings. That’s more expensive than every single member of the S&P 500 Index by sales, and all but two by earnings.

The offering eclipses the 2004 IPO of Google, one of Facebook’s chief competitors for online advertising. Google raised $1.9 billion in its initial share sale, including an over-allotment option. The shares sold at $85 apiece, giving Google a market value of about $23 billion, or about 10 times sales in the 12 months through June 30, 2004.

Facebook hired more than 30 underwriters for the sale, led by Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Goldman Sachs. (GS) Underwriters will have the option to buy an additional 63.2 million shares from the company and its holders after the IPO, according to today’s statement.

Expanded IPO

Facebook boosted the deal’s size amid a two-week series of meetings where Chief Executive Officer Zuckerberg, Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and Chief Financial Officer David Ebersman pitched the sale to investors across the U.S.

“There’s hundreds of millions of people that want to emotionally buy this stock and most of them are going to have to buy it in the aftermarket,” said Jon Merriman, chief executive officer at investment firm Merriman Holdings Inc. in San Francisco. “I’d like to see it season over a couple of months.”

Venture capital firm Accel, based in Palo Alto, planned to offer 49 million shares, while Goldman Sachs aimed to sell 28.7 million, according to terms Facebook disclosed yesterday. Digital Sky Technologies planned to sell 45.7 million shares, and Tiger Global Management planned to sell 23.4 million shares. Facebook executives and directors planned to sell 189.4 million shares.

More Expensive

Some institutional investors had balked at buying into Facebook over concern about the site’s growth prospects, people with knowledge of the matter said last week. While Facebook’s IPO terms valued the company more expensively than members of the S&P 500 (SPX) relative to sales, roadshow attendees asked Zuckerberg how he will retain momentum after revenue surged 24- fold from 2007 through 2011, according to observers present.

The social network topped $4 billion in revenue in the 12 months through March 31, with more than 900 million users. Sales are poised to rise 64 percent to $6.1 billion in 2012, according to researcher EMarketer Inc., which would be the third straight year of slowing growth. Last month, Facebook said first-quarter profit fell to $205 million as sales growth slowed and marketing costs more than doubled.

Advertising Sales

Growth in advertising sales isn’t keeping pace with gains in users, many of them logging on from handheld devices, Facebook said this month. This put pressure on company executives to articulate their mobile strategy as they marketed the stock to potential investors ahead of the IPO. Facebook has said it would add mobile advertising along with new ads to reach users when they log off the company’s website.

Facebook still faces hurdles in traditional Web advertising. General Motors (GM), the world’s biggest automaker by vehicles sold, said this week it was halting display ads on Facebook, while maintaining brand-promotion pages.

You can easily boot Windows 8 from USB or DVD Get going right now.

Update: Apparently, you will be able to upgrade to Windows 8 Consumer preview directly from Windows 8 Developer Preview, which would preserve your settings and files.

Update 2: Windows 8 Server beta is also available for download. Click here

As it was reveiled during the event, we’ve got good news for Siri lovers in Japan, as it seems the engineers at Apple have managed to teach Siri Japanese. If you ask me, I can’t wait for the moment when Siri will know all the languages for the countries where it’s going to be available. Apple should really emphasize that aspect, as it would really boost their already incredible sales records.

A very needed feature and one that always appeals to users is the battery life improvement. Let’s hope they don’t increase it by 0.1-0.5% and claim that as a battery improvement! Besides that, with iOS 5.1, you will be able to delete photos from the Photo Stream and you will have a permanent camera icon on the locksreen. See below the entire list of main updates:

Added Japanese language for Siri

New Mail Keyboard

Improvement in battery life (albeit some would say oterhwise)

Improved Stock Notes App

Ability to delete photos from Photo Stream

Shortcut for Camera always visible on locksreen

Face Detection highlights all the found faces

Camera app for iPad redesigned

Issue with drop calls fixed

AT&T network indicator updated

iTunes Match subscribers get Genius Mixes and Genius playlists

Sound for TV shows and movies on iPad is louder and clearer

Volume Glitch Fixed with Siri

Download Speeds to Increase with iPhone 4S (rumor)

Better WiFi security could soon be just a few rolls of wallpaper away. French researchers at Institut Polytechnique de Grenoble, in cooperation with the Centre Technique du Papier, have developed a wallpaper that can block WiFi signals, preventing them from being broadcast beyond the confines of an office or apartment.

But unlike other signal-blocking technologies based on the Faraday cage (which block all electromagnetic radiation), the wallpaper only blocks a select set of frequencies used by wireless LANs, and allows cellular phones and other radio waves through.

L’Informatcien reports that researchers claim the price of the wallpaper, which is being licensed to a Finnish manufacturer for production, would be ”equivalent to a traditional mid-range wallpaper.” It should be available for sale in 2013.

The WiFi-blocking wallpaper uses a triangular snowflake-patterned mesh to filter out selected frequencies

Pierre Lemaitre-Auger, the director of studies at Grenoble INP’s ESISAR (School of Advanced Systems and Networks) said during a demonstration of the wallpaper that in addition to preventing WiFi snooping, it could also be used in areas where there is concern about interference from WiFi or to block external WiFi sources—such as in hospitals, hotels, or theaters. (It could also be used to prevent guests from trying to get out of paying for WiFi and picking up an outside network for free.)

He also said that the paper could be marketed to people concerned about sensitivity to electromagnetic waves, such as “people who want the opportunity to protect themselves and to have very low levels of radio waves in their apartment.”
